- Once fruitful, Libyan village suffers climate crisis
The once-thriving village of El-Ghroua in Libya has witnessed a stark decline in its agricultural productivity. Known for its abundant figs, olives, and almonds, this region is now grappling with severe environmental challenges that have altered its landscape and livelihoods.
The village, nestled in Libya’s countryside, has traditionally relied on its fertile land for sustenance and economic stability. However, as temperatures rise and precipitation patterns become erratic due to climate change, the landscape has transformed dramatically. Fruits that were once abundant are now scarce, and the agricultural livelihoods of residents are under severe threat.
