Endangered Islands Campaign

The Endangered Islands Campaign is an umbrella project to help small island nations that encompasses three Climate Institute programs:

• Global Sustainable Energy Islands Initiative
• CO2 Emission Offset Program (Climate Institute and Climate Care partnership)
• Individuals can offset personal emissions and fund EIC renewable energy and energy efficiency projects in small island developing states
• Caribbean Adaptation Project
• The World Bank, Climate Institute, and GSEII are aiding St. Lucia, Dominica, and Grenada to enhance their ability to adapt to climate change and to adopt sustainable energy technologies.  The project will identify ways to improve adaptation methods through the development and implementation of Sustainable Energy Plans. 

The EIC's main three objectives are as follows:

1. To develop comprehensive approaches to climate change in participating SIDS that encompass coastal protection, improved building design, clean energy transformation as well as emergency preparedness and anticipatory climate adaptation to protect fragile ecosystems.
2. To build partnerships between participating island nations and coastal cities and states of more populous countries sharing similar vulnerabilities to climate change, such as sea level rise and extreme weather conditions.
3. To leverage these partnerships to motivate the public in populous, heavy greenhouse gas emitting nations to insist on energy changes of the scope needed to save many small island states from extinction.
